How the ATP tournament level ladder works

For standard tour levels, the category name reflects the singles champion’s headline ranking-points award: 250, 500 or 1,000. A Grand Slam champion earns 2,000. ATP Finals points accumulate match by match and reach 1,500 only for an undefeated champion.

Level tells you the stakes—not every detail

Tournament level is a fast guide to points and typical field strength, but it does not by itself determine surface, city, draw size, prize money or broadcast availability. Open the tournament page for those event-specific facts.

Quick answers

ATP level questions answered

What do ATP 250, 500 and Masters 1000 mean?

They identify the headline singles ranking points awarded to the champion: 250, 500 or 1,000. They do not mean prize money or draw size.

How many ranking points does a Grand Slam champion earn?

A 2026 Grand Slam singles champion earns 2,000 PIF ATP Rankings points.

Is the ATP Finals a 1,500-level tournament?

Not in the same fixed-category sense. A player reaches 1,500 only by winning all three round-robin matches, the semi-final and the final.
